i'm thinking of getting one to ride around the city, but I'm scared of all the bad drivers lol

They look so cool and shit, but I don't see how they can barrel down hills with no brakes!!!

it's called leg control, hahaha!

i just finished my single speed KONA mountain bike over the winter and in the middle of finishing my fixed gear, actually one side fixed and the other freewheelin for those times i don't feel like going all out or when you don't have the legs, hehe.

if you going fixie, check the by law in your area, in toronto you can't ride a bike with no brakes even a fixie. my buddy just got a hefty ticket.

why not buy a cheap road bike on craigslist and just convert it to fixed gear. so at least you can try it and not spend big $$$ on it. i'm always on a budget and with a bike mechanic (sort of haha) "kuya" i get cheap good advises. if you've never really ridden a road bike before and don't have the legs i would suggest to ride a sigle speed freewheel first.

i'm gonna take some photos of my bikes, hehehe. i've got a KONA MTB and a Custom-made (meaning cheap-ass from neighbours' garbage) fixie!!!

SF is fixie-central. Only for the cool kids. hahahah Anyways, I think it's the law to have brakes here, but I think most cops ignore it....

It's like a track bike. one fixed gear. only the most basic elements. brakes optional.

pedal forward = go forward
pedal backwards = go backwards.
(Imagine a unicycle with an extra wheel upfront)

Your speed is controlled by how fast you pedal. Or when going down hill, you pedal as fast as your speed lol

Since you have no brakes, you simply stop pedaling. Sometimes your momentum is so fast, you can't slow down as fast as using brakes, so you gotta be more aware.

yes sir.. just got to find cheap ass parts. i got the KONA frame for $40 (i sandblasted it and painted), got the TRUVATIV crank for $35 on eGay, the wheel set was bought for $80 from Kijiji.ca, $12 tires from Walmart, new chains for $10 and pretty much the rest of the parts are from bikes we get from the garbage around the neighbourhood. the saddle was my ultimate fav find. i can't afford the BROOKS but man this is soft too, hahaha. you can prolly buy a s cheap-ass roadie at criagslist for under $100 and then buy a flip flop rear hub and just convert it. that's cheaper, hehe.
